For 2025/26, the BBC plans to engage in talks with AI providers, invest in short-form video, expand BBC Verify, and refresh its news offerings on iPlayer.

Unlike other UK news organisations such as The Times, The Sun, the Financial Times, and The Guardian, the BBC has not yet established partnerships with AI companies. Research this year indicated that 90% of AI chatbot responses to news queries contained at least some issues, with half having significant problems.

The BBC emphasised the risks of generative AI in distorting facts and misleading users.

To address this, the BBC will collaborate with top AI firms and fellow news brands to find solutions while continuing to pilot AI initiatives that enhance trustworthy journalism, such as faster translations and live commentary transcripts.

The organisation also aims to lead discussions on the responsible use of AI to support creativity and protect intellectual property in the creative industries.
