Details
On Wednesday, 23 April, the Reuters Institute will publish a new report examining who contemporary UK journalists are, how they work and what they think. The report is based on a large, representative survey of UK journalists. Authors include Prof Neil Thurman and Sina Thäsler-Kordonouri of LMU Munich; Dr Richard Fletcher and Dr Craig Robertson of the Reuters Institute; Dr Imke Henkel of the University of Leeds; Dr François Nel of the University of Central Lancashire; Dr Jingrong Tong of the University of Sheffield; and City St George’s Journalism’s Dr Rana Arafat, Dr Lindsey Blumell, Dr Glenda Cooper, Dr Lea Hellmueller, Dr Ayala Panievsky and Prof Jane Singer.

On Monday, 28 April, we’ll present the report at a launch event, where journalists and academics will discuss a range of issues raised by this new piece of research: a shift away from permanent contracts, the growth in the number of freelancers, lingering inequalities in pay and seniority, ongoing technological changes, and shifting conceptions of roles, ethics, and risks and threats to journalists in the UK.
